On Confidentiality...

Be assured that all you share in any consultation or session in my office, on the phone or by E-mail will be treated as confidential.

The exceptions are circumstances governed by law, where it is mandatory to report alleged abuse or harm to the self or others, especially as regards children, handicapped persons or elder abuse.

If you are concerned about the security of your E-mail you may opt for encrypted E-mail or an anonymous remailer, However, monitoring of your E-mail is most unlikely.

In some ways a phone consultation provides additional advantages, namely the flow of conversation is uninterrupted and the sound of our voices, adding to a fuller and richer contact.

Best of all, if you are within reach of the San Francisco Bay Area, regular office visits are always a preferred choice.

In addition, extended office visits (weekends are possible) can be made from time to time to complement our work and create an optimal situation for progress.

On the other hand, if you have a handicap or other situation that prevents access to the office, or if your live too far away, the phone work, e-mail and use of the fax can provide important help.

Additional Understandings

It is important to be clear that consultation - that is, recommendations and comments given via e-mail or in a brief interview over the phone - do not constitute or take the place of an ongoing psychotherapy relationship; and while this contact and communication will be informative and clarifying, it is not in and of itself psychotherapy.

Indeed this may be your opportunity to explore the possibility of ongoing work, whether brief or longer term. It can also be your chance to evaluate your situation or get a 2nd opinion. You can expect relief at being heard and understood in a safe, confidential and caring atmosphere.

CAUTION:

You need to be over 18 years old to use on-line or phone consults.

Under all the following circumstances you must allow yourself to seek professional help at once and in your home community.

  • If you feel in danger of hurting yourself or others
  • If you are severely depressed or having suicidal thoughts
  • If you are in a violent relationship

...a crisis center or hot-line will help you.

Check your local yellow pages. Or call 411.
